easyJet and airport clash over security delays

An investigation is underway after over 40 passengers missed flights at Liverpool Airport because of delays getting through security, the Post reports. Some passengers reported taking two hours to get through security, according to airline easyJet, which has had a previous spat with the airport over security delays. The budget was forced to delay some flights, and some of its passengers had to be put on later flights.
A spokesman for the airport said an investigation was under way, but added security had normal levels of staffing and all equipment was working correctly. He said it appeared the delays started at check-in desks, which are run by handling agents on behalf of airlines.
The spokesman said: ‘We did have some big queues in security because there was a big peak of people coming through at the same time, which caused the delays. There appear to have been bigger problems in the check-in area because passengers were delayed getting up to security.' He said staff reviewed CCTV and it showed some passengers had still not entered security 35 minutes before their flight was due for departure.
However, a spokeswoman for easyJet told the newspaper: ‘We don't know what the problem was because our check-in desks all closed on time and there was no problem at our end. But we have heard of delays of up to two hours getting through security. There were a lot of very annoyed passengers.’
