Peel seeks airports investor
01.05.09
Peel Holdings is talking to investors about selling a stake in its airports arm. The company said the move came after it received a number of approaches, and would support its plans for further investment in the terminal at Liverpool Airport.
The proposed development at Liverpool Airport will create about 1500 sq m of additional retail space, several new shop units and a new security search area, with new, latest generation screening equipment. The loss making Peel Airports division also owns Doncaster Sheffield (Robin Hood) and Durham Tees Valley airports.
Neil Pakey, deputy chief executive officer of Peel Airports, said: ‘Liverpool is one of the UK’s major airports. Peel has grown the Airport from 0.7 million passengers to 5.4 million passengers in just over 10 years. It has been less affected by the current aviation slowdown than most other airports and is well positioned for continued development.’
He said the search for an investor was consistent with Peel's ‘strategy of developing greenfield assets into attractive infrastructure investments’.
