All Emerald Airways planes sold
02.12.06
Planes belonging to Liverpool's Emerald Airways have been sold by administrators for an undisclosed sum to an Australian company. PTB (Emerald) Pty reached a deal with administrator KPMG for Emerald's 30-strong fleet, including two aircraft impounded by Liverpool airport in lieu of outstanding monies.
Another Emerald plane had also been impounded by Ronaldsway airport on the Isle of Man for unpaid airport fees. All three aircraft have left the airports, who have received payment from the receivers.
It is expected that the 26 staff remaining from the original 200-strong workforce will transfer to the new owner. KPMG had retained the staff to ensure that the company's planes were ready to fly.
Emerald Airways went into administration in May after being grounded by the Civil Aviation Authority over safety concerns. A KPMG spokeswoman said that they are still in separate negotiations with a prospective buyer of Emerald's Liverpool and Blackpool properties.
