Flyglobespan face danger flight sentence tomorrow
03.08.08
Flyglobespan, the airline that operated a faulty passenger plane from Liverpool Airport to New York, is due to be sentenced tomorrow. The airline pleaded guilty to operating the Boeing 757 with two engine thrust indicators out of action last month.
Hours before the incident - on the inbound flight on the route last June 28 - the crew discovered the equipment failure and had to manually adjust the throttle with the help of another gauge and a handbook in order to land. Despite this the airline declared the aircraft safe to fly later that day without being repaired, breaching Civil Aviation regulations.
There were just 20 passengers on board the plane when it took off on a route that has since been cancelled. The Edinburgh-based budget airline faces an unlimited fine after admitting two charges under the Air Navigation Order 2005. The case will be heard at London’s Southwark Crown Court.
