Thousands hit fog delays
05.02.07
Thousands of passengers were stranded at Liverpool Airport over the weekend as around 60 flights were cancelled due to heavy fog. The bad weather hit flights on Saturday and Sunday, and meant that some travellers were forced to stay overnight at the airport.
On Saturday a number of flights were cancelled from mid-morning onwards after thick fog descended suddenly on the airport. Another 15-20 departures were cancelled yesterday morning, due to fog and planes that were due to fly in on Saturday not reaching the airport. As the fog lifted in the afternoon, passengers were still facing an average two to three hour delays.
Robin Tudor, the airport's business manager, said: 'After the fog on Saturday, there was a lot of aircraft that should have come back to Liverpool that didn't make it. There was also problems with fog for the first wave of Sunday departures. We are slowly getting back to normal.'
