Airport enjoys record month
05.09.11
Liverpool Airport broke its previous passenger record last month, with over 580,000 travellers passing through its terminal, making August the busiest month in the airport’s 78 year history. The previous record was just over 575,000 in August 2007, before the recession.
Low cost airlines easyJet and Ryanair are operating to more summer sun destinations this year, with a number of new resorts featured for the first time. Holidaymakers from across the North West have been taking advantage of the many value for money flights available from a local airport.
Over 81,000 passengers passed through the airport on 568 flights over the August Bank Holiday weekend, surpassing the airport’s predictions. During a two hour peak early on the Bank Holiday Monday, over 2200 passengers passed through the new airport security area.
Craig Richmond, CEO of Peel Airports, said: ‘Even we were surprised by the levels of growth seen in passengers choosing to fly during the summer months. Two weeks in the sun remains very important for families in particular throughout the North West, despite the recession.'
'This is a great achievement and I know that staff here are proud of this latest milestone for Liverpool Airport. Because of their hard work, despite more passengers having passed through our doors, standards of service have continued to improve too’.To book liverpool airport hotel or liverpool airport car park at the lowest price, click on these links to two great liverpool airport parking and liverpool airport hotels price comparison pages.
