£12m airport development announced

Liverpool Airport has announced £12m expansion plans. Owner Peel Airports wants to build bigger and better security facilities and almost double the hub’s retail space. A new stair and escalator access for check-in passengers at the eastern end of the terminal will be built, leading to an improved security suite on the third-floor in what is currently hangar space.
Hangar One is currently occupied by easyJet engineers, but the space will soon be surplus to requirements. A new floor will be built into the hangar roof space housing the security facilities. Given that the development only involves the remodelling of existing buildings, it is unclear whether planning permission is required.
