Baggage handler strike to end this month
07.01.12
A strike at Liverpool Airport by baggage handlers will end this month, the Echo reports. Relations between Servisair, its staff and the GMB union remain tense after a month-and-a-half of stike action over plans to cut between 28 - 35 workers in a move it says would multi-skill staff.
The GMB has rejected plans for compulsory redundancies, describing the decision as ‘blatant profit-taking’, but the Echo reports that the strike must end by January 31, when it will reach the end of its legally-defined 12-week period. If that happens, the union said its members would return to work, but relations between staff and management would be at ‘an all-time low’.
