Assembly member wants Wales flights moved to Liverpool

The Welsh north - south air link should be moved from Anglesey to Liverpool Airport, a Tory assembly member has said. Clwyd West AM Darren Millar said more people would have access if the flights operated from Liverpool to Cardiff, as Liverpool would provide a better location to serve north Wales, rather than Anglesey at the north-west tip of the country.
The service between Cardiff and RAF Valley on Anglesey started in May, offering two return flights a day. The plane carries 18 passengers with the cost of a single ticket from under £20 for the 40-minute trip. It has been allocated £1.2m a year in funding from the Welsh Assembly Government.
Mr. Millar told BBC Radio Wales: 'The vast majority of people in north Wales live in the north-east and Liverpool is a much more accessible airport for people to go to. I believe it would be of great benefit to have a link to Cardiff from Liverpool.'
But Plaid Cymru Aberconwy AM Gareth Jones said that the service was a success and should remain on Anglesey. He said: 'It is working well. The transport minister said yesterday categorically that this is a successful venture.' Mr Jones said if Mr Millar was so concerned about the service, he should ask for it to be referred to the assembly's transport committee to be scrutinised.
