Passengers up 1.3%
08.11.08
Liverpool Airport has reported a rise in passengers, despite problems in the airline industry and the economy. Spokesman Robin Tudor said that October passenger numbers showed an increase of 1.3% last month - to 470,000 - compared with last year.
He said: ‘In the current climate, compared with other airports like Manchester, Heathrow and Gatwick [where passenger numbers have been falling], it is pretty good going. We would like to see that figure higher, but being realistic it is a pretty good month.’
‘At the moment we are not seeing huge downturns, but we are still very much on a watching brief over the coming weeks and months. October’s year-on-year figure was encouraging. The leisure and low cost markets are finding it tough, but people are still wanting to make use of short breaks and leisure.'
‘In contrast long haul flights have suffered. Businesses have cut back on flights because they have had to and that has hit longer haul more than short haul destinations.’
