Airport to expand retail space
06.04.10
Liverpool Airport has started a £12.4m reconfiguration of its terminal, which will boost retail space by over 45%. The year-long renovation programme began last November and will be completed in the autumn. It will create a new central search area and a rebalancing of the airside / landside boundary from 50 / 50 to 80 / 20 in favour of landside.
Overall commercial space at the airport will grow from 55,000sq ft (5,111sq m) to 80,000sq ft (7,435sq m), equivalent to 22% of the total terminal floor space. The new commercial area is going to be split 15 / 85 in favour of airside. Additional high-street brands will be brought in and existing duty-free concessionaire World Duty Free will open a brand new walk-through store within the reconfigured terminal.
The airport forecasts it will handle 5.4m people in the financial year 2009/10. It enjoys a high percentage of international travellers (85%), with easyJet and Ryanair its biggest airline partners.
