Busiest ever April
11.05.11
School Holidays, Easter, the Royal Wedding and May Bank Holiday weekend saw passengers in April at Liverpool Airport break all previous records. Almost half a million passengers passed through the hub - an increase of over 33% compared to April 2010.
April 2010 included the volcanic ash shutdown, however last month’s figures were still 9% higher than the previous busiest April on record, in 2007. A spokesman for Peel Airports, said: ‘We knew passenger numbers would be significantly higher than last year, having seen over 100,000 passengers affected by the Icelandic ash cloud in April 2010, however this year’s bumper April holiday period saw passengers surpass even our expectations. It’s a pity a late Easter and a Royal Wedding doesn’t happen every year !’
