Airport strike next week
11.08.09
Baggage handlers could disrupt flights for thousands of passengers at Liverpool Airport by striking from next Wednesday (August 19). The 150-strong workforce employed by Servisair were balloted on action in a dispute over more than 20 redundancies.
The dispute is over Servisair’s plan to force 51 staff to re-apply for 27 jobs. A spokesman for the GMB union said if the indefinite stoppage goes ahead it will affect flights operated by Ryanair, KLM, Wizzair, Flybe and Thomson and football-related flights.
An airport spokeswoman said the union has not yet officially advised it on what form of action it intends to take. She urged passengers to check-in as normal.
