BA in talks over Heathrow route

British Airways and Liverpool Airport managers have met in recent weeks to discuss the possibility of opening a route to Heathrow, a spokesman for the airport has confirmed. The news comes after it was reported earlier this month that a link to Heathrow was top of Liverpool Airport's route wish list.
The Mersey Partnership (TMP), which is keen to establish a link between Liverpool and a major passenger hub, were also involved in the talks. An airport spokesman added that they are also talking to existing and new airlines about new services, while the TMP is in discussions with other major airlines.
Liverpool is looking for a regular service to a hub airport, that will not only expand the number of destinations, but also mean that people can check-in once and fly from Liverpool to anywhere in the world. A spokesman said that local rival Manchester had seen major benefits from its regular shuttle service to Heathrow.
Mark Basnett, director of operations at TMP, told the Evening Post newspaper: 'We have an active dialogue with BA. They have a big presence at Heathrow, so it's only natural that we would be talking to them. They are the obvious choice.'
