Liverpool Airport is to double its transatlantic air links with a new route to Canada, the Liverpool Echo newspaper has reported. Flyglobespan, the airline introducing a daily link to New York from Liverpool next May is planning to introduce a weekly flight to Toronto the same month, the newspaper has revealed.
Flyglobespan is set to take over a number of routes from Canadian airline Air Transat and will announce the Liverpool-Toronto link as part of a package of new flights. The airline already flies to Canada's largest city from Manchester.
The newspaper reports an official announcement could be made later this week. A spokesman for Edinburgh-based Flyglobespan said: 'We hope to make an announcement soon.', and Liverpool John Lennon Airport spokesman Robin Tudor added: 'We know Flyglobespan are looking at further traffic out of Liverpool and we are very hopeful of an imminent announcement.'
Toronto has two airports, Pearson and Hamilton. It is suggested that the Liverpool flight will link with the latter.
