Airport announces 5 million passengers in last 12 months
15.02.07
Liverpool Airport celebrated its 5 millionth passenger in the last 12 months yesterday. The airport announced that 5 million passengers passed through its doors in the 12 months since February 14 last year, and that it expects to reach 5.5 million in 2007.
The 5 millionth passenger was medical student Bour Laurence who arrived on an easyJet flight from Paris. She was presented with a pair of return flights from easyJet and two nights accommodation plus a meal for two by The Capital of Culture Company.
Robin Tudor, general manager for corporate and community affairs at the airport, said: 'We're now a 5m-per-year airport. In the last 12 months we've introduced 28 new services and there has been a 13% increase in traffic which, for a UK airport, is good going. We are one of the fastest-growing airports in Europe.'
'[The passenger number is] a moving annual total. We saw 4.9m in 2006. Rather than waiting until the end of 2007 to say we've had 5.5m passengers, we're announcing that we've had 5m passengers in the period 14 February 2006 to 14 February 2007.'
'Looking ahead, 2007 will see some further significant milestones for Liverpool Airport, none more so than the important New York JFK service that starts in May. I am confident that by the start of 2008 even more new services will have been announced.'
