Valentines Day chaos at Liverpool Airport
15.02.09
Almost 40 passengers were grounded yesterday after security chaos at Liverpool Airport, the Echo reports. The passengers were unable to board a number of early-morning flights as queues snaked through the terminal building.
Frustrated passengers accused the airport of failing to prepare for the busy Valentine’s Day weekend - which coincided with the start of school half term - and said the security checks were ‘woefully undermanned.’ Flights to Paris, Rome and Ireland were hit by the confusion, with 39 passengers missing flights to 8 different destinations.
A spokesman for the airport said: ‘It seems the Valentine’s weekend, half term and a metal detector being 10 minutes late opening caused delays and we are investigating what happened. The full complement of security staff did appear to be working.’
