Passengers up 15 percent so far this year
15.04.10
An extra 140,000 travellers passed through Liverpool Airport in the first quarter of 2009, compared with the same period in 2008. Airlines - particularly its two biggest customers, easyJet and Ryanair - have put on extra flights, resulting in the 15 percent rise. In February and March passengers increased by around 18 percent.
March saw passengers increase for the fifth month in succession, with the airport the UK's fastest growing and a remarkable achievement in the current difficult period for the aviation industry.
An airport spokesman said: 'We are continuing to buck the trend. More passengers are flying via Liverpool Airport. Our improved accessibility and increasing flight routes mean we are fast becoming the airport of choice for travellers from the Northwest.’
