Passengers up 8.2%
16.12.09
Passengers at Liverpool Airport were up by 8.2% (30,000) last month, as the airport enjoyed its first increase in more than a year. The 363,421 passengers who passed through the terminal were the result of strong performance by the airport this winter season. It has maintained and grown routes and capacity while other airports have seen airlines substantially reduce services.
Neil Pakey, deputy chief executive of Peel Airports, attributed the rise in passengers to all-round improvements across its airlines. He said: ‘We have got airlines who weren’t here last year – KLM and Eastern Airways, which both appeal to the business market – while Ryanair has kept its capacity and added one or two new routes, and easyJet has a bigger flying programme.’
With one month remaining in 2009, the airport has had 4.57m passengers so far this year, down 9%, or about 500,000 people, on 2008. The year-end total will finish well below the last two years, and may not reach the 4.96m achieved in 2006.
