£2400 annual charge for black cab drivers

Liverpool Airport is planning to impose an annual fee of £2400 on Hackney Cab Taxi drivers who want to pick up fares from the airport. The airport claims other airports charge taxis and that they are simply following suit. If black cab drivers decide not to pay the charge, Liverpool Airport will consider using private hire operators, a spokesman said.
From 1 January, Liverpool Airport are to charge black cab drivers £2400 annually for the privilege of working at the airport. The charge works out to a daily fee of £6.85. It will be ploughed back into the airport and would include improving facilities for taxi drivers.
Spokesman for Liverpool Airport, Robin Tudor, said there was a hardcore of around 70 Hackney Cab drivers who regularly worked out of the premises. He said: 'We have held a public meeting and are staging another one next week and the feedback we have received so far has been positive.'
