Progress in strike talks

Talks aimed at averting a strike by ground staff at Liverpool Airport from this week have made progress, the GMB union said. About 150 workers, including baggage handlers and check-in staff employed by ServisAir, are due to walk out on an indefinite strike from Thursday.
The dispute that centres around plans to cut 24 jobs via compulsory redundancy - 51 employees are being asked to reapply for 27 jobs. Proposals were tabled during the negotiations yesterday. GMB official Terry Mellor said: ‘We do not have an agreement, but progress has been made.’
