Weather hits Manchester and Liverpool flights
18.10.07
Eight planes were diverted from Manchester Airport last night because of fog. Six flights were sent to Liverpool Airport and two were diverted to the East Midlands. A reader also tells us that an easyJet flight to Liverpool was diverted to Manchester too.
The Manchester problems were caused by fog, exacerbated because airport only had one runway - runway two - working due to maintenance work. This runway takes less aircraft in poor visibility weather. The flights were re-fuelled at Liverpool and East Midlands and re-directed back to Manchester, landing an hour later than expected.
A reader also tells us that easyJet flight EZY 7224 from Berlin (an A319, number G-EJAR, if you are interested) was due to land at Liverpool Airport at 17:56, but was diverted to Manchester. He was told that Liverpool Airport had 'temporarily closed'. We can find no information on this, but we assume it was because of the weather.
