easyJet announce major expansion plans
19.12.07
Budget airline easyJet is to expand its base at Liverpool Airport with the addition of 2 more aircraft, taking it to a total of 10 planes based at the hub. The growth is part of a major expansion announced yesterday at Liverpool and Manchester airports.
The budget airline announced its first flights from Manchester, but pledged its commitment to Liverpool, where it has flown from for 10 years and is the airport's largest airline. The budget airline currently serves 20 routes from Liverpool.
The growth at the two North West airports will make easyJet the biggest no-frills carrier in the region, ahead of rival Ryanair, with 4 million passengers a year, including 2.6 million from Liverpool Airport.
Airport managing director Neil Pakey said: 'This is very good news. For us to have 10 based aircraft is a huge milestone and it is really good that easyJet sees Liverpool as being a major regional gateway for years ahead.'
The airport recently completed its Master Plan, which will be launched in January 2008, to set out future infrastructure developments to cater for the forecast 8.3 million passengers by 2015 and 12.3 million passengers by 2030.
