Liverpool Airport has launched of a fossil finding guide for its terminal. The guide highlights the main types of fossil that can be found in the limestone floor slabs across the terminal building and also includes a Fossil Mystery Tour around the terminal building.
The guide, 'JLA Fossil Mystery Tour', has been produced by a geologist from the Liverpool Geological Society. It gives passengers the opportunity to explore what creatures once shared their footsteps more than 250 million years ago.
A spokesman for Liverpool Airport said: 'It's fascinating to learn about the fossils in the limestone and to be able to now tell our passengers all about them. Some passengers aren't even aware that the marks and patterns around the terminal are in fact fossils. The guide is ideal for passengers wanting to the pass the time or for those who want to visit Liverpool Airport and explore the terminal in more detail.'
Joe Crossley, from the Liverpool Geological Society, added: 'The airport has such superb fossils, so very well preserved, and beautifully displayed in the polished limestone slabs not only on the floor in the concourse, but also on the walls.'
'The fossils give a vivid insight into our world around 250 million years ago. With time to spare before their flight, we hope that passengers will take the tour and learn about the fossils and what they tell us about the distant past.'
The Fossil Mystery Tour guide is now available from the Information Desk in the terminal building.
