Business as usual during strikes
21.11.11
Liverpool Airport said it will be 'business as usual' this week when baggage handlers stage a series of 2 hour strikes. Members of the GMB union who work at Servisair begin their walk-outs at 05:00 on Wednesday in protest at plans for 47 compulsory redundancies. A second day of strikes is planned for Friday, with a single two-hour strike on Sunday and two more strikes next Monday.
The union said it will repeat the pattern indefinitely and also announced a ban on overtime. Affected airlines include Ryanair, KLM, Flybe and Hungarian airline WizzAir. However an airport spokesman said the strikes would not affect passengers as Servisair staff will be brought in from elsewhere to cover for striking staff. He said: ‘It will be business as usual.'
