23.12.07
Law breakers who could not resist the lure of coming home or jetting off for Christmas were caught out by a police campaign at Liverpool Airport. During a day-long operation - named 'operation turn up' - officers arrested a number of people and persuaded others with outstanding fines to pay up on the spot.
During the operation two people were arrested for drug importation after police found a large quantity of cannabis on an in-bound flight and 5 others were dealt with for the possession of controlled drugs.
The officers also seized 2 cars attempting to gain entry to the airport, recovered a large quantity of cash from a known Liverpool-criminal under the Proceeds of Crime Act, arrested 7 people for public order offences, arrested 1 passenger who had to be evicted by police from an plane for being drunk and disorderly and persuaded 3 people with outstanding court fines to pay up on the spot or face arrest.
