Flyglobespan confirm transatlantic routes axed
25.03.08
Liverpool Airport’s transatlantic routes - launched with much fanfare last year - will not be back this summer as had been planned. Edinburgh-based budget airline Flyglobespan said soaring fuel costs and the poor reliability of leased aircraft meant they were unable to run the flights again this summer.
Last year Flyglobespan said it would re-establish its New York and Toronto services from Liverpool in May after they were scrapped in October due to problems with leased planes. There were also reports suggesting very poor passenger numbers, with the New York route slumping from 3,500 passengers last June to just 325 in October.
The airline confirmed today that the flights will not be returning as planned, due to problems with leased aircraft and rising fuel costs.
