Light aircraft crash near airport
25.10.06
Two men were injured after a light aircraft crashed in fields near Liverpool airport yesterday. An investigation is under way into how the Cessna plane came down just short of the runway.
Roads around the airport were closed last night, including Speke Road as far as Speke Boulevard and Hale Road to Speke Hall Avenue. Incoming flights from Dublin and Madrid were diverted to East Midlands airport.
The men are being treated at Whiston Hospital for non life-threatening head, face and back injuries and were conscious when paramedics arrived. Senior paramedic Mike Jackson told the BBC news website: 'They are very lucky to be alive because the aircraft is a write-off.'
