Jail term for 'stupid' bomb claim
27.08.08
A traveller who claimed he had a bomb and threatened to blow up Liverpool Airport has been jailed for a year, the Post reports. Alfred Emuze was catching an early morning flight to Venice, Italy, when he became frustrated over hand-luggage restrictions.
Liverpool Crown Court heard the 44-year-old, who had been drinking, became angry and told security staff: ‘Be careful, I’ve got a bomb. I’ve got a bomb and I’m going to blow up the airport.'
The alarmed security staff called the armed response team, but when they arrived, Emuze confessed he was not armed, admitting it was just a watch.
When airport officials then refused to let him board his Ryanair flight and arrested him, he became incensed. He punched one police officer in the face and knocked another to the ground.
Jailing him, Judge Robert Warnock said: ‘This was an arrogant and stupid act, probably fuelled by alcohol.’
